The State government’ decision to acquire land for the Capital city under Land Acquisition Act has invited wrath of farmers. They came onto roads to stage a road blockade at Undavalli near here to register their protest on Sunday.

The farmers under the aegis of CPI, CPI(M), Congress and YSR Congress staged the rasta roko sending the police officials into tizzy. The crowds swelled as time passed sending the police into tizzy. The police took the leaders into custody to scuttle the protest, the farmers alleged. The leaders were sent to Peda Kakani police station. The protest continued despite the arrests.

The farmers raised slogans against the land acquisition proposal. They demanded the government to withdraw its plans and make a positive announcement before laying a foundation stone in October.

CPI(M) Capital Region Committee convener Ch. Babu Rao said that the ministers and chief minister should set an example by donating their properties for capital constriction before asking the farmers to make sacrifices. Congress leaders Jonnakuti Kalidas, Burramukku Padmanabha Reddy and others were present.
