RTC union leaders meet Sidda, threaten stir on fitment issue

Leaders of the APSRTC Employees Union met Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao on Saturday seeking payment of 43 per cent fitment to the employees on par with government employees, failing which the union threatened to launch an indefinite strike from May 6.

Last week, marathon talks between the APSRTC management and employees’ unions in Hyderabad over payment of 43 per cent fitment, had failed. The unions wanted the management to resolve the issue before May 5, failing which they would launch an indefinite strike from midnight in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

During the meeting, the Transport Minister asked the union leaders to postpone the strike plan. He said the issue would be taken up with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on May 4 and 5 and a decision would be taken accordingly.

According to P. Damodar, deputy general secretary of RTC Employees Union, Mr. Rao said the Chief Minister was keen on addressing the issues pertaining to the RTC employees,

The employees unions’ had served a strike notice on April 2 demanding that the management pay 43 per cent fitment to 1.20 lakh employees in both the States. But given the financial constraints, the RTC authorities cited helplessness.
