Rs. 74 lakh seized from two persons

The duo claims the cash was from sale proceeds of paddy that they sold in Hyderabad

The police seized Rs. 74 lakh in cash from two persons at the Ibrahimpatnam check-post in the early hours of Sunday. According to the ACP (West) Raghava Rao, the cash was seized from G. Jaganmohan Rao and G. Venkat Nagamalleshwara Rao, both brothers and said to be paddy merchants. The cash did not have any accompanying receipts or documents. The two claimed that the cash was from the sale proceeds of paddy that they had sold to various parties at Hyderabad. Residents of Machilipatnam, they were travelling in a car from Hyderabad to Machilipatnam. The ACP said the cash was seized in view of the ensuing elections and was transferred to the Mylavaram treasury. Both the brothers have been taken into custody and a report has been sent to the Income Tax Department.
