District Collector S. Suresh Kumar said a sum of Rs 3.30 crore was released from Hospital Development Society (HDS) and Arogyasri funds for purchasing equipment in the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada.

Similarly, a sum of Rs 20 crore was allotted for creating additional infrastructure in the Guntur Medical College which has ambitious plans for the future. Funds for this are being released in phases.

Addressing a review meeting at the GGH in Vijayawada on Monday, Mr. Suresh Kumar said it has been decided to install bio-metric system in the GGH for controlled access soon and make the C.C. cameras fully functional.

He said there were some complaints of patients being forced to pay for the services availed by them in the GGH. Stringent action would be taken against those financially squeezing the poor patients, he warned.

The Collector was told that all the hospital staff and doctors would be strictly adhering to dress code and doing their best for meeting the health-care requirements of the patients most of whom hail from poor sections of society. GGH Superintendent Ch. Mohan Rao was present.
