Describing his successor N. Kiran Kumar Reddy as a young and active Chief Minister, former Chief Minister K Rosaiah said Mr. Kiran was striving to offer good governance and alleviate the sufferings of the cyclone-hit farmers despite financial constraints.
Mr. Rosaiah was in the town in connection with several private programmes on Monday. Speaking to media persons, Mr. Rosaiah termed crop losses suffered by the farmers in the recent cyclone devastation as a calamity beyond description.
The year-long tireless efforts of the farmers, who nurtured hopes of a good harvest, have gone in vain during the crucial harvesting season due to nature's fury, he said and added that the distressed farmers deserved liberal aid and support.
“Though the government wants to be liberal in extending maximum aid to the farmers it has its own financial difficulties,” he said. “When the losses do not fall under the norms of the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF), the State government has to bear the entire expenditure,” he pointed out.
“Many of the tenant farmers do not possess any documents in proof of their leased agriculture lands which is a major hindrance for them in accessing help from the government in the aftermath of natural calamities,” he said.
