There was an overwhelming response for the national-level ‘Robotics and Machatronics’ workshop-cum-exhibition being organised at KL University in Vaddeswaram village in Guntur district.
Faculty and students of Mechanical Engineering department was hosting the four-day convention, titled Yantrik-12, being held from August 16 to 19, and more than 2,000 students participated in the workshop.
Robotics Core School, Chennai and Jaypee Institute of Information and Technology, Noida arranged workshops on humanoid, android and aero modelling. About 200 paper and poster presentations were made and 55 models were displayed at the workshop.
A three-member team – Bhavani Sundeep, Praveen and Naresh -- from Robotics Core School (RCS) trained the students on operating humanoid robot, which is for the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, said Mr. Sundeep.
The self operating robot is capable of IR sensing, obstacle detecting, kicking and defending.
Humanoid robot can also accept commands and do yoga and other skits, said Yantrik student coordinator M. Nischith Reddy. “Students from different engineering colleges visited the workshop. Presentations were held in three disciplines -- ‘Robotics’, ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Embedded Systems’ – and the robots of different types and with operations, exhibited by the young engineers attracted the visitors”, said the university Vice-Chancellor R. Sri Hari Rao.
“RCS has imported the components for designing the humanoid robot from Germany.
First time we visited a robot in action, which was very impressive. After attending the workshop, students designed robot models with the kits distributed by RCS trainers and operated them”, said event convenor A. Srinath.
Student organisers Koushik Reddy and D. Nagarjuna thanked the university management for arranging the workshop. The best models would be awarded prize money up to Rs.3.5 lakh, they said.
