Teenage archer and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Ritul Chatterjee gave away prizes to the six finalists of The Hindu Young World Quiz '10 held here on Thursday. The first prize winners from Teja Talent School, Kodad, took home a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, a bicycle each and a few other prizes given by regional sponsors.
The winners of the second and third places took home a cash prize of Rs.12,000 and Rs. 10,000, respectively, along a one-year subscription of the online edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica. Winners of fourth, fifth and sixth places took home cash prizes of Rs. 2,000 each and books from Penguin Publishers. All the teams got prizes from regional sponsors too.
Madurai-based Velammal Educational Trust was the title sponsor of the event, while HUL (Pepsodent), Mumbai, was the associate sponsor. Eureka Forbes (Aqua Sure), Black Thunder, Gold Winner, YO Bikes, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, Vizag Steel Plant, Reckitt Benckiser (Cherry Blossom), Reynolds, Britannica Encyclopedia, Penguin Books and Firefox Bikes were the national sponsors of the quiz. Tata Motors Ltd. is the sponsor of the car that will be given away to the team that wins the national finals at Chennai. I Ads & Events was the event manager.

Quiz Master V.V. Ramanan gave away gift hampers to all the children who answered the questions of the preliminary written test in an open session conducted after all the kids turned in their answer sheets.

S.Sri Harini, an eight class student of V.V. Vidyalayam, Sattupalli, Khammam district, impressed all by singing ‘Vandematharam' in response to a request by the quiz master. In a display of presence of mind and patriotism, all the students in the auditorium stood up while she sang the national song. She earlier identified correctly the writer of the song Bankim Chandra Chatterjee from a visual of a postal stamp brought out in his honour. The Hindu Regional General Manager K. Chandrasekharan welcomed Ritul Chatterjee and presented a souvenir to him on the occasion.
