Even while the demand for stringent laws to deal effectively with sexual assault cases is growing by the day after the brutal Delhi incident, the number of rape cases is clearly on the rise in Krishna district, raising serious concern over the safety of the fair sex.
The district has witnessed/registered at least six rape cases, most of them committed on minor girls and children below five years, and a few rape attempt and sexual harassment cases in the last one month, reflecting the deteriorating law and order situation.
Three cases of sexual assault on children aged below six were also reported in the district. A nursery class student was raped allegedly by the watchman in a private school in the city. However, the case was not reported in the police station.
In another shocking incident, a 13-year-old boy, who was studying in class 8, allegedly raped a class 1 student under Pamidimukkala police station limits. The police took the juvenile into custody. In another case, a 4-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a youth in Jaggaiahpet mandal.
The Mylavaram police arrested a youth on the charge of raping a class 9 student. The police arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Bantumilli mandal in the district. The crime list goes on. The inhuman act on children and girls was creating panic among parents.
An engineering college student was attacked allegedly by her boyfriend of the same institution in full public view on the college campus in Vijayawada a few days ago. The college management, instead of taking action on the complaint lodged by the girl, brokered a compromise after summoning their parents.
In another case, the Patamata police arrested a 39-year-old man S. Sanyasi Raju on the charge of outraging the modesty of girls at Enikepadu village.
The accused allegedly sexually assaulted a few girls in the 7-11 age group and took their nude photographs after tying their hands and legs.
