Riding high on success, NCC equestrian team meets Naidu

The team brought laurels to State during Republic Day fete

Members of an NCC horse riding team which brought laurels to the State at the national-level in the Republic Day camp in Delhi, met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday.

The performance of the NCC cadets of Andhra Pradesh was exemplary in the R-Day camp, as the equestrian team of Andhra Pradesh Directorate was judged as the best contingent among the 17 Directorates which participated with 115 riders from all over the country.

Those who called on Mr. Naidu were Colonel K.V. Vithal, Group Commander, NCC group head quarters, Tirupathi and Colonel L.C.S. Naidu, Group Commander, NCC group head quarters, Kakinada, Lt Col M.T. Swamy, Commanding Officer 1 (Andhra) EME Company NCC along with senior under officers K. Ravi Kumar and Mahesh Kumar, surgents B. Sravani and Ch. B. Suvarna, members of Andhra Pradesh NCC equestrian team which emerged on the top at the national-level. The first such achievement was accomplished in the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2009 by 1 Andhra R&V Regt NCC, Hyderabad and now, by 3 Andhra & 2 Andhra R & V Regt of Kakinada & Tirupathi NCC groups.

In a statement released on Friday, Col. M. T. Swamy said this was possible primarily due to proper direction, vision and special efforts of L.V. Subrahmanyam, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Sports & Youth Advancement and Air Commodore P. Maheswar, VM Deputy Director General of NCC Directorate (AP & T).

Others who played active role include Col. L.C.S. Naidu, Group Commander, Kakinada NCC Group and his team of trainers led by Col. S.L. Baghel, Commanding Officer, 3 Andhra R&V Regt.

National trophies

The cadets from the State lifted three of the four national trophies in the championship. They were for Best Show Jumping (DG RVS Trophy), Best Rider Boys, Best Rider Girls and Veteran Show Jumping events.
