Retired official jailed for corruption

: Anti-Corruption Bureau Court on Thursday awarded two years’ rigorous imprisonment for retired Deputy Commercial Tax Officer (DCTO) P. Prasada Rao, who was booked for possessing assets disproportionate to his sources of income.

The ACB officials registered a case against Prasada Rao for possessing assets, worth about Rs. 5.5 lakh, amassed illegally in 1998.

The accused officer was a native of Krosuru in Guntur district.

With the prosecution proving the charges against the retired officer, ACB Court judge Alapati Giridhar sentenced Prasada Rao to undergo two years’ imprisonment and imposed Rs. 3 lakh penalty, under Section 13 (2), r/w 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption (amended) Act, 2013.

The judge also ordered for confiscation of the ill gotten money of the accused.

If Prasada Rao fails to pay the penalty he should undergo six months simple imprisonment additionally, the court ruled.
