Private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, which lost 350 MBBS seats in the academic year 2015-16 due to their failure to comply with the Medical Council of India (MCI) rules related to faculty and infrastructure, are likely to get the cancelled seats back after July 15.
The MCI has been asked by the Supreme Court to give them time till the above date to enable them to provide the necessary facilities and appoint faculty.
According to official sources, the MCI may consider restoring the seats after conducting the mandatory inspections after July 15. It gives scope for all government and medical colleges to make admissions through National Eligibility and Entrance Test–2 which is scheduled to be held on July 24. A senior official of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences told The Hindu that the MCI had refused to approve renewal of the given number of seats following the inability of the college managements to have proper facilities and qualified faculty.
However, MCI was directed by the Supreme Court to give additional time for compliance to augment the intake of students into MBBS courses.
