Moved by the thin attendance of the students at the Zilla Parishad High School in Velerupadu on Friday apparently due to fear psychosis in the aftermath of the Wednesday's gun misfire incident, noted academician and MLC Chukka Ramaiah has urged the officials concerned to initiate confidence building measures for enabling the schoolchildren shed the fear complex and attend the classes.
Mr Ramaiah visited the school and the houses of the two deceased students in Velerupadu on Friday.
On finding very low attendance of the students in the school, Mr Ramaiah called upon the teachers to infuse confidence in the fear stricken students.
He also interacted with the students and tried to remove fear complexion from their minds.
When Mr Ramaiah visited the house of the deceased student M Venkata Krishna, the impoverished parents of the deceased narrated their miserable plight following the death of their grown up son. Mr Ramaiah was visibly moved by the agony of the poor parents who suffered an irreparable damage in the death of their son.
Mr Ramaiah witnessed similar tails of woe from the bereaved family members of P Satyasai Babu, the second victim of misfire.
Later, speaking to media persons Mr Ramaiah demanded that the government should provide Rs 10 lakh ex gratia each to the bereaved families of the two deceased students and lend all possible help to the kin of those killed in the incident.
The government should also sanction Rs 2 lakh compensation each to the two injured students of the school, he said.
The school headmasters are often facing severe pressure to send their schoolchildren for political meetings and other non-academic programmes, he deplored and suggested that the government should appoint an expert committee to formulate the guidelines to prevent such pressures on the headmasters.
