Reliance Jio to roll out 4G services by year-end

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will start experiencing the power of 4G (Fourth Generation or Long Term Evolution) mobile networks by the end of this year by which time Reliance Jio is expected to fulfil its roll-out obligation.

It is now in advanced stages of testing of the base transceiver stations (BTS) and other infrastructure required by the next generation mobile communication technology, according to P.V. Puranik, Deputy Director General of Telecom Enforcement and Resource Monitoring (TERM) Cell of Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Puranik said, “Reliance Jio foray would enable a rapid expansion of advanced communication technologies across the two States whose mobile customer base (8.44 crore) is almost equal to their population which stands at about 8.50 crore. Such is penetration of mobile telephony and it is set to receive a major boost with the roll-out of 4G services.”

CMS

As more Telecom Service Providers (TSP) are expanding their reach to Telugu-speaking States, the TERM Cell is gearing up for the challenge of curbing illegal activities in the highly competitive arena of telecom services.

In fact, it is looking forward to commissioning of Central Monitoring System (CMS) which is a mass electronic surveillance data mining program being installed by Centre for Development of Telematics for giving a centralised access for law enforcement agencies to telecom networks.

With limited scope for human interface, the CMS will make the job of law enforcement agencies and TERM Cells a lot easier.

In the present set-up, TERM Cells have to make manual interventions at various stages when requests for lawful interceptions of telecommunications come from the DoT.

CMS will be a fully computerised system devoid of any room for tampering the records. As far as routing of international calls by circumventing the designated gateways is concerned, there is no problem, Mr. Puranik observed.

CMS will be a fully computerised system devoid of any room for tampering records.
