Member of Parliament Rayapati Sambasiva Rao on Tuesday created a flutter by walking out of the meeting of MPs of the South Central Railway Zone in Vijayawada.

Mr. Rao, who was miffed with the proceedings, later told media persons that none of the proposals for halting of trains, expediting doubling work between Guntur and Tenali and development of the New Guntur railway station had been realised.

Further, the meetings held with railway officials had often ended without any result.

The MP said he had sought a halt at the Vinukonda station for Kondaveedu Express and Prasanthi Express.

Another halt was proposed at Siripuram for Janmabhoomi Express.

“The General Manager could have sanctioned the new halts which are within his powers but he is saying that the proposals have to be accepted by the Railway Board.

“Also, the Guntur-Tenali doubling work, which started 10 years ago, are yet to be completed, ’’ the MP said. Mr. Rao said the contentious issue of a new Railway zone for Andhra Pradesh should have been sorted out long ago, but the Railways had been delaying a decision on this. “Creation of a new railway zone for AP will solve many problems. I urge the Ministry of Railways to take immediate steps in this direction,” he said.
