Probably for the first time in the country, a rare kind of a ritual will be performed to ‘Srichakra Mahameruvu' with 1,116 conches at Bikkavolu in East Godavari district.
Founder of Sri Rajarajeswari Peetham in the town Devarabhotla Prabhakara Sarma is performing the ‘Srichakrarchana' with 108 ‘Srichakras' brought from Kasi (Benaras) on March 25.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Prabhakara Sarma and Sudheer Sarma said that they were performing the rare ritual on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of the peetham spread over nine acres under the chairmanship of J.V.V. Subba Reddy of Anaparti.
Mr. Prabhakar Sarma said that he had collected some 1,008 Lakshmi Sankhus (conch) and 108 Vishnu Sankhus from different parts of the world during the last 20 years.
The mega event would be conducted with 1,008 couples, he added.
Difficult task
He said that collecting conches was not a big issue. But collection of ‘daskhinavruta' (right faced) conches was a difficult task.
Mr. Sudheer Sarma explained that there was a mention about the importance of ‘daskhinavruta sankhu' in the Padma Purana and the Siva Purana.
Mr. Prabhakara Sarma said that the two types of conches that belonged to the snail species called ‘Gongu' would be smooth and reverberate with ‘Pranava' or ‘Omkara'.
