It was a rare opportunity for the group of 25-odd kids who watched every detail with great attention. They may have eaten a piece of cake many a time but had no clue as to how the delicious dessert is baked.

The kids were brought by volunteers of the student organisation MAD (Make a Difference) to a cake festival thrown open to the public by Seven Days restaurant in the city to mark its first anniversary celebrations on Saturday.

The restaurant is hosting a three-day Cake Festival and a Biryani Festival concurrently, from Friday.

The kids are students of a school adopted by the MAD and were brought to the restaurant as part of a ‘placement activity’. “The idea was to give them exposure on different placement activities; to tell them that besides the regular jobs, a chef, a cook or a kitchen manager could also do interesting things,” said Teja Kiran of MAD.

Led by the MAD city unit president Nikki Sahani and others like Hyma M, Raghuram, Mahesh, Sagar, Priyanka, Vaishnavi, Pratyusha and Anu, the children also had the opportunity to witness a demo on how to make pizza and burger. Interacting with them, the hotel Managing Director A. Krishnaji enlightened them on the career opportunities available in the hotel industry and the courses one must pursue to get there.

The restaurant is the first one to extend the facility of placing cake orders online to its customers. Details of 1500-odd varieties of cakes have been uploaded on www.sevendayscafe.com. Interested people can visit the site and place an order online. The organisers promise to generate a fresh cake within 15 minutes.
