Rare coins put on display

The two-day exhibition of coins organised by the South Indian Numismatic Society (SINS) as part of its 20th annual conference began at SV University library building here on Saturday.

Collectors from across South India took part in the show and proudly displayed the rare coins, currency notes and stamps from 6th century BC till date. Coins of all denominations such as Mysore elephant marks, Hoysala, Vijayanagara, Alopa Pandyan, Chalukyan, Wodeyar dynasties, Portuguese, Nizams, Nawabs, post-independence era naya paisa, coins of the princely States and British era formed the colourful array.

Students from the various varsities and coin enthusiasts from across the district made a beeline to the expo which was inaugurated by SVIMS Director B.Vengamma and SVU Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhakara Rao. Registrar J. Pratap Reddy released the society's annual journal. .
