Railway volleyball tourney inaugurated

Rich tributes were paid to late Indian archery coach Cherukuri Lenin at the inaugural function of the DRM Cup inter-department volleyball tournament held in memory of the archer at Railway Stadium here on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons, Additional Divisional Railway Manager S. Subba Rao said that Lenin won many medals not only for Indian Railways and Andhra Pradesh but also for India in several international tournaments. “Every year we conduct tournaments in kabaddi, volleyball and cricket. These tourneys are meant for recreation to the employees.” he added.

Mr. Rao said that the city will host the inter-divisional kabaddi tournament in the month of October at Satyanarayanapuram railway institute.

As many as 12 teams – Mechanical, Railway Protection Force, Diesel Loco Shed, Electrical Maintenance, Commercial, Operating, Accounts, Personnel, Electrical Loco Shed, Engineering, Signal and Telecommunications and Electrical TRSO - are taking part in the league-cum-knockout tournament in which national players such as A. Ramesh, K. Murali, T. Suresh, P. Subba Reddy, M.S. Raghu, G.V. Narayana Prasad, G. Pydi Raju and A. Ramanadham Choudary are taking part.
