Raids ordered to curb illegal liquor sale

May 01, 2014 11:07 pm | Updated 11:08 pm IST - GUNTUR:

Cracking the whip against unauthorised sale of liquor, district Collector S. Suresh Kumar on Tuesday instructed the Excise and Prohibition officials to conducted raids on illegal liquor outlets across the district.

Mr. Suresh Kumar on Monday inspected two liquor shops at Kaza, noticed that the shops were selling loose liquor and ordered for seizure of the two shops.

He asked the Excise officials to make a thorough enquiry of stocks at the shops and submit a daily report.

The Excise Department too is baffled at the way liquor was finding its way to Guntur and neighbouring districts. On Monday, a huge quantity of spurious liquor was seized at Kollimarla drain near Ponnur. Acting on a tip-off, the Excise sleuths seized 393 quarter bottles of spurious liquor. The seized bottles have the same brand name, Impact, which were seized at Boyapalem on Saturday.
