Raghuveera rants against eviction of trustees

The charitable trust running the Sitarama Kalyana Mandapam that was sealed in Satyanarayanapuram by the Endowments Department has received overwhelming support from people residing around it and non-Telugu Desam political parties.

Political leaders cutting across party lines, on Tuesday, condemned the way the way officials of the Endowments Department sealed the Kalyanamandapam.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy, who was in the city to participate in a dharna, visited the Kalyanamandapam and interacted with members of the Bhuwaneswari Peetham, the charitable trust that was running the community hall.

Leaders of all political parties, except the Telugu Desam, came and met Mr Raghuveera Reddy to express their solidarity with members of the trust. BJP State executive member U. Srinivasa Raju, YSR Congress leader P.Gowtham Reddy and film song writer Jonnavittula Ramalingeswara Rao said that they were shocked at the “barbaric” way the Endowments Department used police force to evict members of the charitable trust. Several members of the Brahmin Community residing near the Kalyanamandapam said that the charitable trust was genuinely serving the poor. The Kalyanamandapam was made available for functions either for free or just Rs. 3,000 to the residents, told the leaders.

The PCC chief said that the way the Endowment Department officials evicted the trust members was a “crime” because “due process” was not followed.

The Congress leader called Endowments Commissioner Y.V. Anuradha and Principal Secretary in charge of Endowments J.S.V. Prasad and briefed them about the developments and asked to take action against those responsible. He said criminal cases should be booked against those who “hurt the feelings of those living in the surrounds of the Kalyanamandapam.” He said those living in the neighbourhood were soft-spoken, but they had the backing of all political parties.

Mr Ramalingeswara Rao said as a supporter of the BJP he was shocked that senior leaders of the party did not even bother to console former party candidate Jaganmohan Raju who suffered a facture on his hand when he was beaten up by the police when he tried to stop the “illegal” eviction.
