The city police deployed Quick Response Teams (QRT) to guard the thieves nabbed from various places in the city, at the Police Commissionerate.
QRT provided the required additional security as the police were apprehensive that the thieves would just slip away. Police had put up the thieves numbering 115 in a tent on the Commissionerate before presenting them before the media.
Knowing polie are on their trail
According to the CCS police, the thieves, belonging to 20 gangs, struck mostly at Padmavati and Krishnaveni ghats which are close to the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) and the railway station. They had come by trains, said City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang. “Aware that the police are checking lodges and hotels, the gangs booked rooms in lodges on city outskirts and in different places in Krishna district. However, they spent most of the time in pushkar nagars and had food prepared for the devotees,” said a police officer.
“One or two of the gang members used to stay in pushkar nagars and the remaining used to move in bathing ghats, bus and railway stations and temples and rob the pilgrims. They used to hand over the booty to their associates waiting at pushkar nagars,” the officer added.
