The newly created ‘U’ turn junction near Siris company on the Bandar Road witnessed activity on Saturday too, with a private function hall putting up a flexi-board naming it as ‘Buddha Maarg’. The traffic police, however, removed the flexi by the evening.
The junction was named as Buddha Marg though there were no formal permissions from Krishna district administration. Incidentally, the new junction is just a few yards away from the city limits. Hence, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has no role in according permission for naming the roads. The committee headed by Collector is also not empowered to accord permission to install statues on the roads and public places from 2013. Sensing trouble, police removed the flexi-board. In fact, installation of the statue itself is in violation of Supreme Court and High Court orders. The statue has been installed on the divider on the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam highway. Patamata Traffic CI G. Srinivas said that the police created the U turn junction to ease the traffic snarls . Blinkers and lights would come up at the junction to alert the road users. “The flexi was put up without our knowledge and it was removed,” he said.
