The Health Department is making elaborate arrangements to cover more than 5.20 lakh children across the State as part of the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme, which will commence on January 18. The programme will be followed with house visits on January 19 and 20 to cover children who miss the polio drops.

In Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Guntur and Kurnool corporations, the house visits will be conducted on January 21. A total of 36,624 polio booths would be established apart from 1,110 mobile teams, 3650 route supervisors, 46,686 ASHA staff and others would be deployed to take up the immunisation programme.

Since 1995, the government was conducting pulse polio immunisation and every season, nearly 52 lakh children were covered under the immunisation. Polio was very much under control in the State, claimed Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas in a press release.
