PRP MLA's family refused ‘darshan' in VIP queue

The issue of protocol rocked the Indrakeeladri, abode of goddess Kanaka Durga, here on Sunday, on the third day of Dasara festival.

Vijayawada (West) MLA Velampalli Srinivas arrived at Rajagopuram along with his family members in the morning, after purchasing Rs.250 tickets. But, the temple officials, however, said no to his family members and prevented them from entering the temple from VIP queue. Temple Executive Officer (EO) N. Vijay Kumar told him that “the protocol did not permit the family members.” Angered over this, the MLA sought to know whether the protocol would permit former minister Kodela Sivaprasada Rao from the VIP queue. Mr. Vijay Kumar, however, left the premises without continuing any further discussion.

The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) MLA, annoyed over this, remained there for more than one-and-half hours. Meanwhile, Animal Husbandry Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy arrived at scene after having darsan of the deity, and exchanged pleasantries with Mr. Srinivasa Rao, who brought the issue to his notice. The EO, who was present, apprised the minister that the protocol does not permit family members. Surprised over this, the minister said, “How can it be possible. I would speak to the minister concerned.”

The VIPs who paid visit to the temple include, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, and Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu. The vedic scholars blessed Mr. Reddy and Mr. Parthasarathy, and gave them prasadam. Mr. Parthasarathy said that the temple introduced Rs. 250 ticket to demonstrate that no special treatment should be given to VVIPs and VIPs. More so, the move would augment the revenues of the temple.

Minister's plea

Mr. Reddy asked the district administration and temple management to ensure that devotees faced no problem during the festivities.
