The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has opposed the unscheduled power cut in the city. During a protest programme on Monday CPI (M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that the SPDCL authorities were resorting to additional power cut of two hours.
The local MLAs had promised the people that there would not be any unscheduled power-cut in the city, but much to the discomfort of the people authorities were resorting to unscheduled cuts, he said and demanded immediate withdrawal of power-cut.
CPI city secretariat member Navaneetham Sambasiva Rao said that the people were facing hardships due to the unscheduled power cut. The children and aged were worst sufferers. The housewives were unable to take up their domestic chores due to power cut being imposed without rhyme and reason.
The voltage fluctuation problem was also destroying the electronic and home appliances, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) Ibrahimpatnam mandal committee members held a demonstration opposite Sub-Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum to the Sub Collector urging him to take necessary steps to distribute 75 acre 24 cents land available in Ibrahimpatnam to the poor for housing purposes.
The surplus land was available in survey number 14. The land owner, despite handing over the land to the government in 1977, was cultivating the land, they said. The land was still in his possession, they alleged. The Government has not distributed a cent of land though the poor submitted many memoranda in Racchabanda and other programmes, the party leaders said.
