Advocates, civil liberty activists and leaders of different political parties questioned the implementation of Section 30 and 30 (a) of the Police Act, 1861, for the regulation of public assemblies, processions and meetings.

Speaking at a roundtable conducted by the Paura Spandana Vedika on the police harassment of The Hindu Resident Editor S. Nagesh Kumar, CPI city secretary Donepudi Kasinath said that he had forgotten when Section 30 of the police Act was not in force.

Civil liberties activist B. Sambasiva Rao said that because of Section 30 there was no place for people to meet without taking the permission of the police department.
