Speakers at the inauguration of the Samana Institute of Fashion Technology here on Monday said that there was a lot of growth for the fashion industry nowadays and the young generation would improve their creative abilities by joining the courses related to this industry.

K.K. Sharma, deputy director of Weavers' Service Centre, Union Ministry of Textiles, inaugurated the SIFT centre when he said that the centre would have good support from the students and there was considerable demand for fashion technology and designing.

WSC technical superintendent (weaving) M. Joga Rao, textile designer R. Janardhan and technical superintendent (processing) M. Ravichandran were present on the occasion.

SIFT chief executive officer Samana Moosavi thanked the gathering on the occasion of the inauguration of their centre in One Town area for the first time.

She said that this was the second such centre to impart various courses after the first one located near Benz Circle.

She said that there was more potential for fashion technology courses emerging from the interested candidates in this area.

Director of SIFT V. Ramakrishna said that it was a pleasure for them to have deputy director Sharma and other senior officers from the WSC which was a Government of India organisation aimed at promoting weavers' activities in this part of the region.

He said that there were just three to four WSCs in the entire South India and the local centre would cover the activities all over the State.

Mr. Ramakrishna said that the Central Government organisation was doing research in the area of designing, colouring and marketing of textile products and these activities were being carried out through formation of weavers' committees.

The courses being offered at SIFT centre would be of immense use and help to housewives, who would be searching for good opportunities to learn new things, he added.

There would be plenty of scope for giving expression to innovative ideas in the field of fashion technology and the learners could also improve their personality by enrolling for such courses, Mr. Ramakrishna added.
