Ruling party corporators on Thursday asked the Mayor to order an investigation into the alleged Transferable Development Rights bonds scam which cast a shadow on the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
Co-opted member Siddam Nagendra Reddy had sought details of the TDR bonds issued by the corporation from April 2005 to March 2016.
The VMC authorities responded saying 733 TDR bonds were issued between April 1, 2005 and March 31, 2016.
Meanwhile, the ruling party corporators asked the Mayor to form a House committee to investigate the recent allegations on the town planning wing which had allegedly lost many TDR bonds.
“Lack of clarity on the issue is causing fear among TDR bond holders and clearing the air will put an end to it,” opined corporator M. Venkateswara Rao. Opposition members too demanded an inquiry.
Mayor K. Sridhar, however, did not respond adequately to the demand. It may be worth mentioning that Commissioner G. Veerapandian had suspended 10 ministerial staff of the corporation’s town planning wing after some of the TDR bonds went missing. Since then, it was unclear if the bonds had been stolen or misused.
