Departmental enquiry into the attack on G. Konduru police station and firing on villagers will be completed in a couple of days, Director- General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy has said.
“We ordered an enquiry into incident and Krishna district Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shemushi Bajpai would submit the enquiry report shortly. We will take action, based on the report,” said Mr. Reddy.
The DGP, who was here to review the arrangements for panchayat polls on Monday, said that the Krishna district police obtained a report in writing from the Tamil Nadu police (who traced the missing woman in the case) and the investigation would be completed in the next two days.
The Sooramangalam police handed over the woman, but not the youth, and the TN police mentioned it in the report, Mr. Reddy said.
“There are two versions on firing. While Mylavaram Circle Inspector U. Bangaru Raju in his statement said that he opened fire in self-defence, the villagers allege that the CI unnecessarily resorted to firing injuring four persons. The facts will come out in the enquiry,” he added.
The police are probing into the excesses of G. Konduru Sub-Inspector Abdul Haq and the CI. A case has been booked against Koduru villagers for attacking the police station and ransacking the station. The instigation for the violence is also being probed, the DGP said.
“Police stations are set up to provide protection for the public. But, it is not correct for the villagers to attack the station. Through video footages we will identify the persons involved in the attack and book them,” Mr. Dinesh Reddy said.
