The Water Resources Department is showcasing the work it is doing to make the State drought free.

Those crossing the Krishna on Prakasam Barrage are greeted by large vinyl hoardings put on the stone pillars of the hoist bridge (hoisting the crest gates). While the piers form the base of the road bridge, the piers form the base of the hoist bridge pillars.

The department is planning to put up vinyl hoardings for every one of the 53 priority projects on the 70 and odd hoist bridge pillars.

OSD with the department, A. Varaprasada Rao told The Hindu that the vinyl hoardings have pictures of the projects and their engineering and hydraulic details. The main components of big and complicated projects such as Handri Neeva Srujala Sravanti and Galeru Nagari Srujala Sravanti (GNSS), which had several reservoirs, have been separated to enable the public to understand, he explained.

Balancing reservoirs

“For example, the HNSS project has the capacity to hold 40 tmcft. It has eight balancing reservoirs each having its own ayacut. Each reservoir has been shown as a separate project,” Mr. Varaprasada Rao explained.
