Four students suffered injuries when lecturers of Sri Chaitanya College thrashed them for leaving the study room one hour before schedule. The students are undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Following a complaint, police arrested college principal Cherukuri Raghuram and vice-principal Koneru Ramakrishna Prasad on Thursday.
According to sources, four students - Munvar Hussian, Saifullah, Satish and Raghava Rao - left the study hall around 9.30 p.m on Wednesday, while the schedule was from 8.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. for EAMCET aspirants.
Angered over this, Raghuram and Prasad chided the four, leading to a clash. The duo reportedly beat the students blue and black using iron rods, causing fracture to one of them.
On Thursday, the students’ parents and Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists staged a protest, demanding stern action against the college management.
Penamaluru Circle Inspector J. Murali Krishna said based on the complaint lodged by Munvar Hussain, cases had been registered against the accused under Sections 324 and 325 of the IPC. He added that the principal and vice principal would be produced before court on Friday.
