Classes have begun for children interested in participating in the Indian Robot Olympiad.

The World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) will be held from November 9 to 11 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. All children in their teens (19 years and below) are eligible to participate in the contest.

The WRO is a worldwide robotics competition for which participants must progress through a number of qualifying stages before they can be selected to participate in the 2012 WRO final.

Individuals or teams interested in participating in the competition should direct enquiries to the National Organisers located in their respective countries.

Largest event

Indian Robot Olympiad (IRO) is one of the largest robotics competition in India for students between the age group of 9 and 19.

The IRO is the Indian Chapter of World Robot Olympiad that provides a unique platform for students to showcase their talent and creativity and represent the country at the international level.

The mission of IRO is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programmes that build science, engineering, and technology skills that inspire innovation and to foster well-rounded essential life skills, including self-confidence, communication, teamwork, and leadership.

Every team will compete in a regional Indian Robot Olympiad at their respective regions.

The top scoring teams will compete in the National Finals at Thyagaraj National Stadium, New Delhi, on 11th and 12th October 2012.

Twelve winners in ‘regular category’ across all age groups and 7 teams in ‘open category’ from National Finals will represent ‘Team India’ in the World Robot Olympiad Malaysia - 2012.

No team or individual participated in IRO 2011 from Andhra Pradesh says Aura Education Society spokesperson Gadde Mamatha.

The society had taken up the task of training some children to participate in IRO. The society sent teachers to different institutions to be trained to teach children robotics.

Classes for the children interested in participating in the Indian Robotics Olympiad began on Sunday, Ms. Mamatha said. Those interested in enrolling should contact 9393979999.
