Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu on Sunday asked the officials to prepare designs and project reports for development of housing for the poor at Gollapudi.

The farmers of Gollapudi village recently came forward to part with their lands for taking up housing under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme on 60:40 basis. In view of this, Mr. Ravi Babu visited Gollapudi to inspect the lands to be acquired. The Commissioner told the officials to prepare plans for construction of a hospital, a school and a college, and lay roads in the village. He also stressed the need for providing for transport system and exhibition grounds.

When the local people stated that providing necessary facilities and infrastructure would encourage more farmers to part with their lands, Mr. Ravi Babu said that designs would be prepared by the architects of School of Planning and Architecture. The farmers should submit the survey numbers of their lands to the officials for further action.

He later visited Jakkampudi layout and inspected the basic infrastructure being provided by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). He asked the officials to speed up the construction of drinking water reservoir, under ground drainage and water supply lines.

City Chief Planner P. Timma Reddy, Executive Engineer Om Prakash and others were present.
