Officials of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam have decided to maintain status quo with regard to engaging workers at the kitchen of goddess Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri. Though it was decided to replace the existing workers with those who belonged to Brahmin community from April 1 onwards, an agitation staged by the workers who had been associated with the temple kitchen for many years had made the officials change their decision.
It is leant that the Endowments Minister and a few other Ministers advised the temple authorities to continue the same workers, even as their services had to be terminated from April 1, as per the work contract.
PCC secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji said that he had spoken to Minister for Animal Husbandry K.Parthasarathy, district incharge Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy and Minister for Endowments Gadde Venkata Reddy and briefed them about the situation. The Ministers assured him that a status quo would be maintained on the issue and orders to that effect had already been given to Temple officials.
Mr Sivaji appealed to the Left parties not to “desecrate” the Kanakadurga temple for “their political ends”.
