The power position in the State will be better by August with the coming of monsoons and addition production of 200 megawatts, said Industries Commissioner Rajat Kumar.

Mr Kumar was the key speaker at the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Vijayawada zone annual meet and public session on the “Krishna-West Godavari-Prakasam-Guntur (KGPG) – Potential of Industrial Corridor”. Mr Kumar said the two challenges of developing industries in the State were the shortage of power and skilled workers.

He said Andhra Pradesh was “traditionally” a power surplus state. But the sudden shortage of power in the State was being referred to as a “black swan event” caused by unexpected events of large magnitude and consequence.

He said the integrating of the southern grid, from which the state drew the power, with the Central grid would also reduce the gap between demand and supply.

He said there was also a shortage of skilled labour. The certificates being issued by some of the institutions were of a dubious nature. The State Government through its Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu programme would provide industries the skilled labour required, he said.

Mr. Kumar lauded a study conducted by CII on the potential of developing the KGPG industrial corridor.

CII Andhra Pradesh Chairperson Suchitra Ella said there was a proposal of changing the name of the CII Vijayawada zone to the CII KGPG zone. Amarthi Consulting CEO Sanjay Upendram in a power point presentation said the four districts had an economy of Rs 75,000 crore. And with marginal value addition the size of the KGPG economic could be increased four to five times, he said. He said the districts had the road and railway infrastructure, but there was a need to develop ports, airports and power plants stressed. All the crops grown in these districts were being currently transported to other areas for processing.

Krishna Collector Budha Prakash M.Jyothi and Guntur Collector S. Suresh Kumar, who were special guests, gave some suggestions and offered full support to the development of industries in their respective districts.

New chairman of the zone M.Lakshmi Prasad and Vice-chairperson V.V.M.Krishna were installed in a business meeting held before the public session. A new office of CII Vijayawada zone was also inaugurated at 40-15-9/3, Nandamuri Road, Brindavan Colony. Sitting Vijayawada zone chairman B.S.Koteswara Rao, CII Andhra Pradesh vice-chairman B.Ashok Reddy and other were present.
