Poor surveillance along the coast, particularly in Nagayalanka mandal, is worrying the police as the Ministry of Defence has planned to set up Missile Testing Range at Sorlagondi village in Krishna district.
On March 8, 2013, the Avanigadda police arrested a Bangladeshi national, Samrat Manto Biswas (45), who entered into an island village, Elichetla Dibba, without any documents. He was a native of Papna district where he stayed for about 20 days. On receiving information, the Nayagalanka police arrested Biswas and booked a case under Section 14 of Foreigner’s Act, Superintendent of Police J. Prabhakara Rao told The Hindu.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced the setting up of facility and the district administration allotted 321 acres for the proposed project in Nagayalanka mandal. But, the poor security along the coast was creating panic among the villagers, who are urging the police to step up surveillance on and off the shore. The Intelligence sleuths have already sounded alert over possibility of terrorists’ infiltration into the country through sea route.
The Superintendent of Police said that the State and Central governments would provide fool-proof security for the proposed Missile Testing Range. A police outpost with Central Paramilitary force would be set up at Sorlagondi village. If necessary, the district police would also put up a police outpost in addition to the proposed Marine Police Station at Palayakatippa village in Koduru mandal.
“There are about 49 seabed villages in seven mandals in the 127-km coastline in Krishna district. Besides, seven island villagers are located in Nagayalanka, Avanigadda, Koduru, Mopidevi, and other mandals,” said the SP.
