Responding to the district bandh call given by Kapu community leaders following arrest of Mudragada Padnabham, members of various associations of the community attempted to obstruct movement of buses at the Pundit Nehru Bus Station on Saturday morning.

Their attempts turned futile as police confronted the demonstrators and detained dozens of protestors, including Kapu Associations’ JAC convener Koppula Venkat, Kapunadu state president Galla Subramanyam, Amaravati Kapu Sammelanam leader Pichaiah and others. They were shifted to various police stations in city. Also, activists also tried force closure of commercial establishments in city but their attempts were foiled by police.

Arrests condemned

Condemning the arrests of Kapu community leaders, city Congress president Malladi Vishnu and official spokesperson Kolanukonda Sivaji extended support to the protestors. They alleged that the Chief Minister was going against democracy by hindering the rights of protestors.
