Excise sleuths recover 509 cases of liquor from a spinning mill owned by the former MLA

Former MLA Ravi Venkata Ramana, contesting on YSR Congress ticket from Ponnur Assembly segment, is facing arrest after the Excise and Prohibition sleuths seized 509 cases of liquor from a spinning mill belonging to him, at Boyapalem village here.

The liquor brand was manufactured in Haryana its sale was prohibited in Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, the former MLA was absconding and excise teams led by Superintendents Manohar and Adinarayana Murthy were reaching Ponnur where Mr. Ramana could be arrested. Meanwhile, two persons identified as Kothapalli Ankamma Rao and J. Koteswara Rao had been arrested in connection with the case.

Mr. Ramana was booked under Section 34 (A) of Excise Act 34, a non-bailable section under which a person convicted could face up to three years of simple imprisonment. District Collector S. Suresh Kumar said the charges framed against the ex-MLA were serious in nature and added that they had also written to the Election Commission about this.
