The city police are suspecting that an organised child kidnapping gang is on the prowl in the city, if the recent spurt in kidnapping of children is an indication.

About half-a-dozen cases of kidnapping had been registered in the city in the last few months. Though the police were able to trace the victims in a couple of cases, they are yet to solve the remaining cases.

City Police Commissioner A. B. Venkateswara Rao at a press conference here on Monday, said that police were suspecting the role of a gang involved in abducting children and said efforts were on to identify the members.

“The police are trying to question the offenders involved in similar cases earlier. We request parents not to leave children unattended, particularly mentally-challenged children, and inform the police if they spot the movement of strangers in colonies.”

Central Crime Station (CCS) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) G. Ramakrishna said a special team headed by an ACP was investigating the child missing cases.

Several cases were pending in different police stations in the city, he said.
