The traffic police seized 122 vehicles during a special drive conducted in the city and surrounding areas on Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The drive was aimed at checking traffic violations such as driving without licence and using cellphone while driving.

The special drive called ‘Street walk' was held at 12 busy centres in the city where traffic violations were being frequently reported. It was also intended to spread awareness among the people that stringent action would be taken against the violators of traffic rules.

Hefty fine

Stating that such campaigns would be conducted regularly, traffic assistant commissioner of police Y.V. Ramana Rao said heavy fines would be imposed with regard to the violations reported during the special drive and there would be counselling for the violators. He said that cases were booked against those resorting to triple riding, drunken driving, and driving without any documents.

Mr. Ramana said owners of vehicles seized would have to attend counselling to be conducted later and they would also have to pay fines imposed on them in the past which they had not paid for any reason. The past record of traffic violations by those booked during the drive would also be checked now.
