The police foiled the attempt of Telugu Desam Party leaders to conduct cockfights on the Bandar Road here on Thursday. The TDP leaders went back and confined themselves to posing for a photograph following warning from the police that cases would be slapped against them if the cockfight was organised.

Everything was in place for the cockfight, including a rink very close to NTR statue at Patamata here. The TDP leaders brought four cocks for the fight.

The police, who were present there, cautioned that the fights were unlawful and cases would be booked against them. Subsequently, the leaders shelved their plans and posed for photographs. Later, they raised slogans in favour Samaikyandhra.

TDP Vijayawada (Central) in charge Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and others organised a rally in support of Save Andhra Pradesh meeting scheduled to be held at PWD Grounds on Friday, here on Eluru Road. Students from various colleges took part in the rally in good number. The rally began at BSNL Chuttugunta office and concluded near Vijaya Talkies. The participants raised slogans against the State division. The college and school students took out a rally at Patamata to NTR Statue in support of Save Andhra Pradesh. Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and others were present.
