Take extra precaution to prevent untoward incident

Residents of the RTC Colony did not know what hit them early on Tuesday morning. A posse of policemen descended on their Colony at dawn itself. The number of policemen and officers began swelling as the time passed.

The colony residents, hawkers and morning walkers were curious as the policemen drawn from traffic, QRT, rope party and home guards cordoned off the Sai Jewel Convention Centre. The reason: visit of actor Ram Charan Tej. Not less than 100 police turned up there, and the people were taken aback to see rank and file of the police blocking the movement of people on Road No.1 of Teachers Colony. They put up barricades on both ends and stopped movement of vehicles on that road. The junctions in adjacent colonies were manned by constables.

The police scrutinised the movement of people with hawk eyes as if something untoward was bound to happen. Sub-Inspectors and three Circle Inspectors drawn from various police stations including Satynarayanapuram and Patamata supervised the security arrangements. The police on duty, however, could not tell the reasons for his visit to the convention centre. Some said he was attending a private function. Others said an ad film was being made there. There was a wide range of speculations about his stay there.

The police were clueless till what time he would be there. The policemen were given the impression that the actor would stay put there till evening.

“Wonder what happens. We have been here since 7 a.m. Let alone lunch, there are no arrangements for drinking water even,” lamented a constable. The actor avoided media glare and drove straight into the Convention Centre. The police higher-ups deployed the rope party though there was no general public on that road. It was apparently to stop the lens men.

When contacted, Central Zone ACP D.V. Nageswara Rao said that the organisers applied for permission on payment basis. As Mr. Ram Charan was a celebrity the police arranged security to prevent any law and order problem, he said.
