A large number of issues were raised by the elected representatives of Krishna district during the three-hour-long review of developmental works and welfare schemes in the district undertaken by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Krishna District Collector Peeyush Kumar and the heads of various departments attended the meeting, while MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, who was celebrating his birthday in the city, did not attend.
Some of the main issues that came up for discussion include re-registration of D-form pattas and pattas for those living on irrigation lands in accordance with G.O.166 in the city; inviting fresh bids for Machilipatnam airport; expansion of Gannavaram airport by acquiring the required land; expanding the city to make it Greater Vijayawada; and providing the required land for School of Planning and Architecture as well as the super-speciality hospital.
Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu said on the telephone that the Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to all the problems represented by the elected representatives of the district. The re-registration of pattas and allocation of irrigation lands were two important issues that were represented to the Chief Minister.
The grants due to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation from the State government, widening of ghat road on Indrakeeladri and other issues of the temple, land acquisition for housing projects taken up under JNNURM, housing schemes of middle income group, Machilipatnam port, Pulichintala project, Krishna delta modernisation, widening of national highway from Machilipatnam to Hyderabad, airport development and rescheduling of loans were discussed, Mr. Vishnu said.
The problems of subabul farmers were also put before the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister would take decisions on these items and send them to the departments concerned for followup, Mr. Vishnu said. The elected representatives would initially receive minutes of the meeting and then the action-taken report, the MLA said.
TDP MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said separate representations were submitted to the Chief Minister on each of the pending works and issues. The Chief Minister’s attention was drawn to the Rs.660 crore of pending dues for Pulichintala project. Mr. Rosaiah was also requested not to deprive the city of the “Greater” status “because of political reasons”. A bridge on the Krishna should be constructed so as to take the Enikepadu bypass to NH-5 that will be six-laned soon, and another bridge should be constructed at Ghantasala.
Vijayawada East MLA Yelamanchili Ravi requested the Chief Minister to sanction works for the strengthening the karakatta river bund from Ramalingeswaranagar to Geetanagar for the safety of canal bund dwellers. He also wanted the proposed flyover at Benz circle to be constructed from Skew bridge to Ring road rather than from Patamata NTR circle to Mahatma Gandhi road, as it would avoid causing problems in Patamata residential area.
Mr. Ravi also wanted the Government to construct a check dam at Yanamalakuduru and divert the river water into Bandar canal from this point so that the canal from the barrage up to Yanamalakuduru could be levelled for use for Government purposes. The Praja Rajyam MLA wanted the registration fee for pattas of Gunadala hill slope dwellers to be reduced from Rs. 1,370 per sq. yard to Rs. 100 per sq. yard for the welfare of poor people.
