Plastic manufacturers took out a rally from Transco Superintending Engineer's office to District Industries Centre here on Tuesday in protest against power cuts. They also staged a demonstration in front of the Collector's office.
A delegation of Plastic Manufacturers' Association, led by its president M. Balakrishna Rao and secretary Jaya Rao, submitted a memorandum to Collector V.N. Vishnu seeking urgent remedial action to save the industry from imminent closure.
They expressed regret that power supply was not available for three days in a week and during the remaining days also unscheduled cuts bothered them, due to which production came down and losses were mounting.
If the situation continued, most of the 150 units in the district might be forced to shut down. This would result in large-scale retrenchment. The consequences thereof would be disastrous, they said.
