To prevent instances of travelling in train on transferred tickets in AC classes, carrying proof of identity by passengers has been extended to AC classes also. With effect from February 15, passengers booking tickets issued from computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) or i-ticket booked through Internet for travel in AC First Class, AC II Tier, AC III Tier, AC Chair Car, and Executive classes will be required to carry any one of the prescribed proof of identity (in original).

Passengers need to produce their proof of identity as and when required failing which all those booked on that ticket will be treated as “without ticket” and charged accordingly, a SCR press release said on Friday.

The list of valid proofs of identity is as follows: photo identity card issued by Election Commission of India, passport, PAN card, driving licence, photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State government, student identity card with photograph issued by recognised school/college, bank passbook with photo, credit cards issued by banks with laminated photo, etc.
