The 3-day workshop gets under way at Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation

Phono surgeons of different countries on Friday discussed on latest discoveries, surgical procedures, voice disorders in men, women and children and explained the treatment facilities available.

The surgeons discussed at length on the surgical inventions in larynx at the three-day ninth annual conference of Association of Phonosurgeons of India, ‘Phonocon-2013’ at Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation, at Chinaoutpalli in Krishna district.

A live surgical workshop on different phono surgical and airway surgeries were presented on the first day of the convention.

Surgeons of New Zealand, Italy, USA, and India who attended the conference exchanged ideas and examined some rare surgical cases.

Otolaryngology associate professor and Director of Emory Voice Centre, USA, Dr. Michel Johns, consultant otolaryngology, New Zealand, Dr. David Vokes, Dr. Surendra Narne of Padua University, Italy, Dr. Ravi Elluru, associate professor in otolaryngology, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, USA, Dr. J. Paul Wilging and Dr. Melissa McCarty Statham and others spoke.

Director General of American Board of Urology Dr. C. Nageswara Rao said the ‘Phonocon-2013’ was being organised by Association of Otolaryngologists of India, in association with the State branches of ENT-HNS, Dr.PSIMS and Research Foundation.

Dr. Rao said the physiology of voice production has catalyzed medical and surgical intervention resulting in new treatments and medical facilities to patients suffering from voice disorders in the last three decades.

Larynx requires cooperation of primary care by physician, laryngeal surgeons, voice scientists, speech pathologists and teachers.

Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor I.V. Rao will inaugurate the conference on the second day, at Hanumara Hall-1, at Dr.PSIMS and RF, on Saturday.
