Medical shop owners under the banner of the Andhra Pradesh Drug Traders Association complained to Health Minister D.L. Ravindra Reddy against the Andhra Pradesh Pharmacy Council Registrar.

In a memorandum submitted to the Minister the association levelled serious allegations against Registrar. The association alleged that unauthorised amounts were being collected by him from pharmacists as “non-refundable deposit.”

The memorandum said the Registrar was penalising the pharmacists between Rs.20,000 and Rs.50,000 as “penalty” for not renewing the licenses.

The association said for the past 50 years the council had never collected any money for the renewal of licences.

There were 70,000 pharmacists in the State, who were living in fear because of the arbitrary actions of the pharmacy council, the association alleged.

Association general secretary P.S. Patnaik told the Minister that the body had already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
