PG medical counselling on track

First phase extended by two days; second phase from July 5 to 10

July 01, 2014 12:42 am | Updated 12:42 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The first phase of P.G counselling of NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) has been extended by two days. It was to end on June 30 as per the original schedule but additional time till July 2 was required to complete the process which was delayed due to protests against certain irregularities.

Counselling was suspended on June 27 and 28 following the controversy over seat matrix, which necessitated a high-level meeting of officials of A.P and Telangana governments to allay the apprehensions among a section of students. The admission process resumed on Sunday and was going on smoothly, according to Vice-Chancellor T. Ravi Raju.

After the PGMET scam, it was the turn of counselling to become a subject of debate. Some candidates from Osmania University area have on the third day of counselling alleged that the seat matrix was such that they were at a disadvantage vis-à-vis their counterparts from Andhra and Sri Venkateswara Universities.

Distribution of seats in the un-reserved categories was the bone of contention but the issue was quickly resolved paving the way for resumption of counselling on Sunday.

Meanwhile, PGMET and first counselling appear to be running into fresh trouble due to petitions reportedly filed in Supreme Court against their validity on the ground that they were flawed.

Dr. Ravi Raju told The Hindu that the university had High Court permission to conduct re-examination and instructions to that effect were issued by the Governor. The university would obviously do what the government wants it to in the present circumstances, he added.

Meanwhile, the second phase of counselling will be held from July 5 to 10 and it will be preceded by verification by the Medical Board and counselling for physically challenged (PH) candidates on July 3 and 4.

Notification of these admissions was released by registrar S. Babu Lal on Monday.

Counselling for PH candidates from 1st to the last rank will be conducted from 10 a.m. on July 3 and both and non-service and service PH candidates from 2 p.m. on July 4.

Counselling for service seats from ranks 1 to 4500 will be held from 9 a.m. on July 5 and 4501 to 6000 from 2 p.m. of the same day. The date for counselling in the case of ranks 6001 to the last rank and conversions is July 6.

Counselling for non-service seats with ranks 1 to 500 and 501 to 1000 will be held from 9 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. respectively on July 7, 1001 to 1700 and 1701 to 2500 from 9 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on July 8, 2501 to 4000 and 4001 to the last rank on July 9 and conversions on July 10.

Mr. Babu Lal stated that the candidates would be called in the order of merit (rank wise) for counselling, selected and admitted candidates who withdraw from the courses between the date of the admission notification (June 30) and August 31 will be debarred for three years from appearing for PGMET in addition to forfeiture of the bonds and candidates have to submit original certificates / admission card along with the fee receipts during the counselling.
