The water distribution lines of Railways are causing terrible experience for road users in One Town. The railway dug up the road to repair the distribution lines couple of weeks ago near West gate of Vijayawada Railway Station. It, however, did not recarpet the road. The digging of road, which connects One Town with Kaleswara Rao Market and other key places in the city, has turned into a bottle neck.
The traffic woes on this narrow stretch of Jawaharlal Nehru Road are unending. A temple on side, rickshaw stand, sulabh complex are few to mention that eat up the space available for the road users. The worst sufferers are pedestrians. The distribution lines works have upped their ante.
Though the water is not flooding the road, it was causing traffic jam at the busy junction and neighbouring areas. Vehicles were seen piling up on either side of the junction.
The residents fear that the unhygienic condition may cause various health hazards particularly during the rainy season.
“We have been forced to live in a highly unhygienic condition. The water works have narrowed the road. The water is gushing out of the pipeline,” says K. Sankar Rao, a resident.
The ongoing works is posing problems to commuters. The roads where the pipelines have already been laid have still not been repaired causing traffic jams. Further, the dust rising from the dug up portion is another menace. Riding a two wheeler on this stretch is a Herculean Task. The pedestrians would have to cover their faces with clothes to protect from the dust and stench smell emanating from the urinals.
“It is not possible to move on the road as it has been badly damaged due to laying of pipelines. Further, the dusty conditions have aggravated the problem. The authorities have not covered the pipes adding to problems” says Janaki, a fruit vendor.
