Peace walk fails to draw youth

January 27, 2012 01:09 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 03:10 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The peace walk against corruption organised by Devineni Avinash as some sort of show of strength turned out to be a damp squib. The “thousands” of youth, which the organisers said would participate, failed to turn up.

The participation of the event's main attraction, Mr. Avinash, was also nominal. Holding a banner which read ‘Peace walk of youth against corruption', the youth walked from Patamata Centre to Sub-collector's office.

Addressing a gathering, Mr. Avinash said one of the objectives of the peace walk was to sensitise the youth on the burning issue of corruption. A strong legislation was needed to check corruption. The other objective was to send a message to the students in Telangana, who were being misled by the family of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao. Mr. Rao was not interested in Telangana. His only interest was the existence of his party and the prosperity of his family, he said.
